WHO ARE WE?
LA TECH 4955 Robotics was founded in 2014 and is run out of Lakeside Academy in Lachine (Montreal), Quebec, which is part of the Lester B. Pearson School Board. We exercise a project based robotics program that fosters STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) learning.
Our team is made up of student Members (grades 9-11) and Mentors who are either educators at lakeside or professionals in the world of engineering and/or business. LA Tech is fueled by an entrepreneurial spirit,
and the goal of the program is to provide members with hands on experience and to build a robot that will compete in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition held in Montreal.
OUR MISSION
“The mission of FIRST® is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs …”
- Dean Kamen, Founder of FIRST
Here at LA Tech 4955 our mission is to exercise student creativity, determination and education in the realm of science, technology and business, where the main task for mentors is to facilitate student driven initiatives.
OUR VISION
"To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders."
- Dean Kamen, Founder of FIRST
Our vision is to make learning science and technology as much fun as it is work, make being part of robotics feel like a family as much as it does a team, and to inspire creative, determined, and educated members that would rather take initiative, then give excuses.
OUR CORE VALUES
“... displaying unqualified kindness and respect in the face of fierce competition... teams can and should help and cooperate with each other even as they compete… It is teaching teammates. It is learning from Mentors. And it is managing and being managed.”
- Dean Kamen, Founder of FIRST
“... a way of doing things that encourages high-quality work, emphasizes the value of others, and respects individuals and the community… Knowledge, competition, and empathy are comfortably blended.”
- Dean Kamen, Founder of FIRST
Here at LA Tech 4955 Robotics we have fully adopted the notion of Gracious Professionalism and Coopertition as described by FIRST. Gracious Professionalism is described as:
Likewise, Coopertition is described as:
